  What is Pilates?

Pilates, a non-impact method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates over 80 years ago, is designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Pilates has proven itself invaluable both as a fitness endeavor and as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation modalities. A systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates is done on specialized equipment using spring-loaded resistance. With over 500 exercises, the Pilates technique will keep you interested and challenged.

Benefits of the Pilates method include

  • Rejuvenated mind, body and spirit
  • Increased strength and flexibility, particularly of the abdomen and back muscles
  • Improved overall health to the spine
  • Improved concentration
  • Improved coordination, both muscular and mental
  • Improved body awareness
  • Improved posture, balance and core strength
  • A new "active, alert, and disciplined" you
