Caring doctors are not born they are made.
By the age of three, Maia James knew she wanted to be a doctor. For her
birthday, instead of the usual doll or tea set, she asked for a plastic
take-apart model of the human body and high school level anatomy books. The
young Maia spent the next year teaching herself all the bones of the body.
She would eventually become a chiropractor.
While in college, Maia became a Certified Massage Therapist. This allowed
her to offer nurturing hands-on care. She then pursued her dream of becoming
of a Chiropractic Physician. This gave her the ability to give people the
broadest possible diagnosis and treatment based on their unique whole life
issues and current health.
"Although I always thought I wanted to be a medical doctor," says Dr. Maia,
"I came to realize that I didn't want confine myself or my patients to an
8-minute time-slot. I wanted to use touch to connect people to good health,
to be a part of their lives and to listen to them, and that takes longer
than 8 minutes. It was readily apparent that as a natural health care
provider, there would be no limits and I could realize my vision."
"Today, my greatest challenge is to let people know that they can take
charge of their body and their health. For example, rather than tell people
that they must exercise more, I try to help them make it fun and do it with
them."
She was named "Outstanding New Doctor of the Year" by the California
Chiropractic Association in 2005.
She completed her
Certified
Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP ) degree in 2006.This enables her work
with numerous amateur and semi professional athletic teams here in the Bay
Area. She travels with various teams for games and championships.
